Waxy Waxy Wax Paper, Where Are You?

Image
Wax paper. All the way from a beehive. How many stings were there in that process? Well, we don't know. But what we do know is wax paper is the miracle for earth. Aluminum foil is probably sitting in every kitchen right now. But it takes a really long time to biodegrade. But our heroine wax saves the day! Introducing to our pageant, wax paper! Yes. This is environmentally friendly. Takes less time to biodegrade too. Many people are beginning to use our friend.  Do you, too, use it? If not, start now! This is the day to begin your journey to become more eco friendly.

A Coffee Cup's Journey

Image
That coffee cup in your hand probably doesn't ignite much thought. But there's much more to the story of this beverage... much more than a short walk to the kitchen. The life cycle of this drink starts in a farmland. Coffee usually grows in warm equatorial climates with many of the farmlands spread across Brazil, Vietnam, Indonesia and Ethiopia. Here, trees are chopped down to make room for the coffee plants. Coffee is farmed from the small berries called 'coffee cherries' of a shrub. It takes about four years for a newly planted shrub to start bearing the coffee cherries. The berries of the coffee shrub can ripen at different times and so, those berries are picked by hand. Workers often toil around farmlands picking coffee cherries for long shifts for low wages. The process by which the coffee is processed is different in different places, with different agents such as the sun (dry), water (washed) or a mixture of the two (honey) being used. Next, the beans are taken t...

Unimaginable Threat - Correction Pens

Image
The whiteners, aka correction pens, you use to correct mistakes have a great impact on human health. But do you know it can cause harm to our planet too? Whiteners contain CFCs, which we all know is the main cause for global warming. It also has some chemicals which is not good for life on earth.  So, we recommend you to lessen your use of whiteners and cross out your writing with a pen instead for the sake of our environment.

Coral Bleaching : Threats to our Reefs

Image
Climate change can affect various forms of lives, including our magnificent coral reefs too.  Oceans absorb 93% of heat of global warming. When this happens, corals can overheat. They react to the stress. Thus, coral bleaching is caused. In a couple of years, we will lose all the pretty reefs we have right now. Right now, as you read this post, coral reefs are dying worldwide.

Hurricanes : The Background Music

Image
Did you know that hurricanes, aka typhoon or cyclone can be caused by global warming? Hurricanes are powered due to heat releasing. A warmer ocean evaporates more, giving the atmosphere more water. Warmer atmosphere means more rain. And more the rain, stronger the winds that blow. Eventually, there comes the destructive hurricane. As heat builds up in oceans, our problem grows stronger by every notch. For example: Hurricane Maria. It destroyed most of Puerto Rico. Every morning, when people woke up, all they saw was the broken mass of buildings and houses.

Why you should turn vegetarian: How a diet can effect the planet

Image
We've all been aware of the simple steps that help solve the issue of global warming: following the 5r's, going sustainable, using less private transport and installing appliances that use renewable energy. But have you heard of the impact caused by a single diet? Food too, can have an affect towards global warming. Diets rich in vegetables, rather than meat can contribute towards a significantly lower carbon footprint. Well, this is because animals farmed for meat take up much more space, resources and money to maintain than plants. Certain animals farmed for meat such as cows, give out carbon emissions in the form of burps and farts. Being vegetarian is also more ethical as it spares life and also has significant health benefits. To produce 1 kg of beef, 326.1 sq. m is needed, compared to the 0.38 sq. m needed for most vegetables. Having a vegetarian diet can reduce carbon emission by 2.5 times compared to a meat-based diet. However, it is understood that everyone cannot sw...

Shocking : Jellyfishes Can Survive Global Warming!

Image
We all know animals and every other living organism worldwide is affected by global warming. But jellyfish: nah. Climate change is tolerated by these creatures. Over 20 years, jellyfishes have been swarming in numbers. As temperature increases, they increase in number, too. Since predators are decreasing in number due to the heat, there are lesser eggs eaten. There are over 1000 jellyfish eggs produced every single day. We must stop global warming, and fast.

What A Frog Taught Us About Climate Change

Image
If you put a frog into a bowl and suddenly increase the temperature, the frog will jump out. But if you slowly change the temperature bit-by-bit, the frog will stay and slowly become boiled... and dead. However, this is not true for frogs; it is for humans. Humans are in a big boiling pot, the Earth. Earth's temperature is slowly increasing, with an average of 1°C every year. We, humans do not notice this change, but it is very dangerous and destructive for ecosystems and several sources of life. The worse part is that humans are the ones slowly heating up the boiling bowl (Earth).  This single frog has been a lesson to all of us how a single digit, a degree can have a negative impact on the Earth and all the life within it.
